Sangiovese is a red Italian wine grape variety whose name derives from the Latin “the blood of Jove.”  Rare varietal for the Finger Lakes. Medium bodied and fruitier due to large, marble sized grapes with a greater flesh to skin ratio.

Tasting Notes:

Earthy notes of wild strawberries & tea leaf. Aged in American oak for 2 1/2 years and cellar/bottle aged for 1 year. Softer tannin's aid in this smooth, well rounded Italian varietal.

Winemaker Notes:

Italian varietal widely planted throughout Tuscany and is the main component in Chianti and Montepulciano wines .  Our vines here in the Finger Lakes are pretty well established and we continue to have great success with this grape that can be tough to grow in cooler climates.
